In an interview with CBS News anchor Katie Couric, Senator McCain said:
Colonel MacFarland was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar Awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history.
Except it's a complete lie.
In his own word, McFarland is quoted as saying the Anbar Awakening actually began four months before the surge was even announced!
And, for some unknown reason, CBS News decided to edit out McCain's false claim rather than air them and call him on his latest gaffe. Why would they do that?

Aww, you're still in denial that the troop surge was an utter and complete success and that petraeus' strategy has completely turned things around. Must suck to see so much progress huh? If there is no bad news to report on, what will the media do? I suppose they'll just stop reporting on iraq...

Telex,
I'm not sure how YOU define success but I don't find any killing to be "successful". You might see it differently if, say, your mother was one of the innocent Iraqis killed in this "surge". Just for the record I’m glad you haven't lost anyone in this conflict.
Take care
