At 1:36am Eastern Standard time, Radiohead's In Rainbow was delivered to our mailbox! This is probably the first time in eight years that an album hasn't leaked before its on sale date.
Initial reaction? It's fucking mega! The first thing you notice is that Thom's voice hasn't been so audible on a Radiohead album since OK Computer. His voice is one of Radiohead's best instruments and it glides over all ten tracks with such beautiful ease. The music is fantastic and tight, so much fuller sounding than some of the tracks sounded when they road-tested the material in 2006.
As of now, I'd give the album an "A" or A-".

as i've written elsewhere, they really ruined "videotape."
this album really cements the fact that radiohead try way too hard to not write a simple verse-chorus-verse song, and the ones they did a great job with live in 2006 were still managled on the record.
that said, there are some brilliant moments. "all i need" is fantastic. although "reckoner" used to be a stomping rock freakout, the mellower version is very welcome.
but as a whole, the CD is lacking something. it's missing a spark.....it's missing that one big payoff moment. it plods along without going anywhere.

Haven't listened enough times for a verdict yet. However, I agree with some of the above comments, especially in regards to nude. The original version of that song that was kicked around for years blows the album version out of the water. I just dont understand the thought process there, just as I dont understand them not recording "lift" which is one of the best songs that thom has ever written.
Still upset about the free download though.
