The Democrats won control of 2006 with an agenda to end America's involvement in Iraq and control the President's abuse of constitutional powers. Sadly, they have done neither. In fact, the continue to fund the war and they passed a bill expanding Bush's abuse of civil liberties:
The new law for the first time provided a legal framework for much of the surveillance without warrants that was being conducted in secret by the National Security Agency and outside the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the 1978 law that is supposed to regulate the way the government can listen to the private communications of American citizens.
And in Iraq, 200,000 AK-47's that the U.S. Army provided to Iraqi's have gone missing. Oversight? Shouldn't someone be fired for this? Hello. Is this thing on........

If anyone was wondering why this Democratic-led has one of the lowest approval ratings in modern polling, this FISA debacle should speak volumes. It is sad because instead of sticking up for civil liberties, they once again chose to save their own asses, and even if they believe this may appear to have them look strong on "terrorism," it just makes them look as weak as people had perceived them to be before they took over both houses.
Where is the logic in taking away judicial review on these matters and giving them to a Alberto Gonzales, a man who is basically a few steps away from being called a certifiable liar by Congress.
Congress is showing that they are less interested in safeguarding the Constitution, then in protecting their own political lives.
Their approval rating is completely justified.

Humph. Someone has to force me to read this post. It's too big and boring. Brevity is the sister of talent, remember that.
