Upon first listening, fans of Beirut's Lon Gisland and Gulag Orkestar (Product Shop NYC named it the "Number One Album of 2007") will not be disappointed by The Flying Club Cup, which will be released on October 2, 2007.
The Flying Club Cup is a much more produced album, but lead Beiruter Zach Condon never lets the production value overpower the music. His voice is stronger than on either one their previous releases and the musicianship is tighter. The thirteen tracks provide a beautifully painted tour through the spectrum of European music and culture. While no songs on the album are completely from left field, the album feels like a nice, small step forward for the band.

I thought I had read some pre-release chatter that this disc was supposed to be "extremely" different than the last album (and EP)?? Am I making this up?
Anyway, as you say, there are no huge differences between this album and what came before it, other than production issues and the assuredness of the musicianship.
It's a good disc. It doesn't overwhelm me, but it's good.

I did a post on this record today as well and I agree. I don't think fans of the band will be disappointed at all.

There is most certainly a diversity between the two records. I love this album indeed. Head to my blog for my review and feature.
