SUPERJAM
John Paul Jones, Ben Harper, and Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson. You know everyone & their mama were speculating if they'd play any Zeppelin tunes and sure enough they opened with "When The Levee Breaks" a tune about the Great Mississippi Flood penned by ol' Memphis Minnie and her man Kansas Joe McCoy. Can someone maybe the SuperJam crew from this year's Bonnaroo re-create this tune for New Orleans & Hurricane Katrina? They tore the roof off that tent lemme tell you...other tunes were "Good Times, Bad Times" and "Dazed and Confused" where both ?uestlove and Jones tore it up on the drums and bass respectively. oooOOooweee. Harper's slide was not as on point as Jimmy Page's originals (no shit sherlock) but Jones was just tearing through the basslines like they were straight up in the studio!!
That shit was on FIRE!

GOGOL BORDELLO
Oh Snap! I didn't catch as much of their set as I would've liked. One thing's for sure, I am heading to the Ukraine for a visit if Gogol Bordello are any indication of what type of rhythm can come out of their country. Eugene Hutz is crrrazy, in a good way. The motherfucker threw himself atop a drumhead and stood on it while the audience gave it a good push across the crowd. I know one thing, I've got Friday, July 20, 2007 marked on my calendar. Bullshit Filmore East at Irving Plaza.

WOLFMOTHER
Apparently these jokers had just got off the plane from Stockholm previously to playing their set. Mhmm. J-e-t-s-e-t-t-i-n-g. Andrew the lead singer was on the money as usual beginning with "Dimension" and putting his all into every goddamn tune. Their sound is just colossal. Let me tell you, a field is a perfect setting to hear Wolfmother, or if you were me and were BBQ'ing some ribs, you would just go home and tell all your friends that Wolfmother played your BBQ at Bonnaroo like I did. Ask Amit, our "refugee" style RV was parked right next to the opening gate of the festival. Prime listening spot!
Setlist: Dimension / Pyramid / Apple Tree / White Unicorn / Woman / Pleased To Meet You / Tales / Colossal / Where Eagles Have Been / Jam / Mind's Eye / Joker & The Theif

THE ROOTS
Hailing from The Illadelph they sure played a mean ass set. OOF! They mixed their classic jams with James Brown tribute for what was a dope set. Snap, Blackthought had me foot-stomping, hand-clapping, dancing on my tippie toes and all around wrecking having on my makeshift dancefloor which was dirt. He was like a lil JB 'cept he didn't move like him. And you know hippies, they were going freaking wild, especially when they did their own take on Bob Dylan's "Master of War."

HOLD STEADY
Fistpumping craziness! I had never seen so many pumped fists in my whole life!
Hippies bashing Hipsters. Psyche! Starting the show at 4:20, you could tell the singer Craig had no idea what to expect, well he exactly said they didn't (so there). Man what a show and a great end to a tour to play in front of a packed crowd of folks who knew every word and guitar lick. The band introduced a new tune, "Hot Soft Light" as a song about "getting busted." Yes, folks, Hold Steady rocked the house or TENT!

TOOL
Sorry Mr. Productshopnyc, I was kinda scared to walk near that area. I don't like their music at all but I heard the crowd was INSANE!

ZIGGY MARLEY
WOW. The real deal. Opening up with "Black Cat" he had everyone swaying their arms and hands and kicking up their feet to the closing note of his daddy's "Lively Up Yourself." And what a smile on his face he had. What a great set. OOF!! Hail Ziggy!

FRANZ FERDINAND
Ask Amit or Halarazzi, they provided the music for our 6th barbecue. Truthfully, I am not all on Franz Ferdinand's jockstrap like most people are. They sounded ai-ght. I mean for background music for my 3rd barbecue and all.

GALACTIC
If you are reading this I want to join your band, please! FUNKY FUNKY FUNKY and made me remember that space is place and funk is where it's at! Straight up Sly-Stone grooves but all their own.

Also caught, Regina Spektor, Ween, Bob Weir & Ratdog, DJ Shadow, Ben Harper, DJ Logic, Galatic, blah blah blah. Bonnaroo was off the hook!
